Police in PA Seize $1 Mil Worth of Heroin
Police in Pennsylvania recently took $1 million of heroin off the streets after a drug dog sniffed out the goods in the vehicle of DeShawn Ulmer and Tameyka Lawrenc. The arrest is perhaps more pedestrian then one might imagine. There were no SWAT teams breaking down doors, and now DEA agents raiding the drug czar’s grand mansion. In fact, the bust went down on the side of the Pennsylvania Turnpike! Wjactv.com reports the manner in which the arrest and confiscation took place:
“A state trooper who made the stop said Ulmer appeared nervous and was driving with a suspended license. The car was also rented by someone else.
The trooper called for backup and a police dog located the drugs.
Both suspects are in the Somerset County Jail. Stay with WJACTV.com and WJAC-TV News for continuing coverage as details become available.” (source)
The duo was initially stopped for speeding.
Why would someone hire a drug mule who has a suspended license? Why would someone hire a drug mule and put him up in a car rented under someone else’s name? And why one earth would you be speeding with a million dollars worth of heroin in your car? Perhaps these questions might not strike everyone as logical, but sometimes you just have to wonder what people are thinking.
All that said, the drug bust is a definite coup for the Pennsylvania troopers. This is, in fact, one of the largest busts in the state’s history, and hopefully it will help keep some illicit substances off the street.

Marijuana – A Wonder Drug?
Marijuana has finally gone mainstream, indeed the times are “a changin” with 13 states allowing patients to buy and use medical marijuana to treat a varity of symtoms. According to Lester Grinspoon, MD, associate professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, author of Marijuana Reconsidered and Co author of Marijuana: Forbidden Medicine, Marijuana is quite effective in treating:
-Nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite associated with AIDS/HIV and Chemotherapy.
-Chronic neuropathy caused by damage to nerves caused by diabetes and HIV.
-Intocular Pressure associated with glaucoma.
-Muscle Spasticity associated with multiple sclerosis and spinal cord injury.
Now, this poses a great question, with marijuana being so useful, is it infact a Wonder Drug? You be the judge.
Microsoft’s Bing- A Haven for Illegal Drug Operations?
The internet, and Microsoft’s Bing search engine in particular has become a haven for illegal drug operations. A recent report has found that the vast majority of so-called pharmacies operating on Microsoft Bing are, in fact, illegal operations. Searchsecurity.com, in an August 2009 report have stated that 90% of pharmacies on Bing are illegal:
“Nine out of 10 of the pharmacies are operating illegally, according to the report “No Prescription Required: Bing.com Prescription Drug ads” by Interent compliance company Knujon and LegitScript, an Internet pharmacy verification organization. Illicit activities include:
–Selling prescription drugs, including controlled substances, without prescriptions.
–Not being licensed as a pharmacy in any U.S. jurisdiction, despite Microsoft’s policy of only sponsoring Internet pharmacies that supply drugs from the United States or Canada.
–Providing unregulated, unapproved prescription drugs.” (source)
The story goes on to mention how several of these sites are linked to Russian organized crime. It should come as no surprise that commonly targeted drugs are also commonly abused drugs according to the above article: “Soma (carisoprodol, a muscle relaxant), Ultram (tramadol, a pain reliever) and Ambien (a sleep aid), erectile dysfunction drugs–Viagra, Cialis, Levitra, and Valtrex, used to treat herpes.” For their part, Microsoft has responded by stating that they take this report very seriously. Of course illegal pharmacies are nothing new to the Internet, but it is perhaps somewhat startling to realize the severity of the illegal activity that is flourishing online.

Half of Teens Arrested Use Drugs.
SAN DIEGO – Among the teens arrested in the region, half tested postive for drugs, and many were also abusing common prescription medications – according to an annual study of drug use among teens. This study is conducted every year by The San Diego Association of Governments.
Even though the percent drug use is in alignment with previous finding in previous years, the research group headed by Sandy Keaton was surprised by how unusually common prescription drug abuse had become – being “ranked as the 3rd most commonly reported illicit drug use behind ecstasy and marijuana.“
Ryan O’Neal Tries to Pick Up His Own Daughter…
Question: How do you know when it is time to kick drugs and alcohol?
Answer: When you mistakenly try to “pick up” your own daughter.
Ryan O’Neal, a man who could singlehandedly keep the tabloids in business, made the ultimate faux pas recently when he hit on his own daughter…at the funeral of his former love interest Farrah Fawcett. According to O’Neal and the Sun, the interaction happened as follows:
“I had just put the casket in the hearse and I was watching it drive away when a beautiful blonde woman comes up and embraces me.
“I said to her, ‘You have a drink on you? You have a car?’
“She replied, ‘Daddy, it’s me – Tatum!’
“I was just trying to be funny with a strange Swedish woman, and it’s my daughter.
“It’s so sick.”
