Police in Pennsylvania recently took $1 million of heroin off the streets after a drug dog sniffed out the goods in the vehicle of DeShawn Ulmer and Tameyka Lawrenc. The arrest is perhaps more pedestrian then one might imagine. There were no SWAT teams breaking down doors, and now DEA agents raiding the drug czar’s grand mansion. In fact, the bust went down on the side of the Pennsylvania Turnpike! Wjactv.com reports the manner in which the arrest and confiscation took place:
“A state trooper who made the stop said Ulmer appeared nervous and was driving with a suspended license. The car was also rented by someone else.
The trooper called for backup and a police dog located the drugs.
Both suspects are in the Somerset County Jail. Stay with WJACTV.com and WJAC-TV News for continuing coverage as details become available.” (source)
The duo was initially stopped for speeding.
Why would someone hire a drug mule who has a suspended license? Why would someone hire a drug mule and put him up in a car rented under someone else’s name? And why one earth would you be speeding with a million dollars worth of heroin in your car? Perhaps these questions might not strike everyone as logical, but sometimes you just have to wonder what people are thinking.
All that said, the drug bust is a definite coup for the Pennsylvania troopers. This is, in fact, one of the largest busts in the state’s history, and hopefully it will help keep some illicit substances off the street.
