Just when you think that people have learned their lesson with alcohol and alcohol abuse, it seems that they never fail to disappoint. According to a recent news story, a 46 year-old mother and her 16 year-old daughter were charged for providing alcohol at a party which sent two minors to the hospital. According to the news report, when deputies arrived at the mother’s home located in Sparta, NY they found a 14 year-old girl passed out. When the girl was brought to the hospital, authorities were astonished to find that her blood alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit for driving. Additionally, another girl was hospitalized due to alcohol.
Karen McCarty, the mother who is being charged in this case, was said to have purchased two bottles of vodka, peppermint schnapps and hard lemonade that over a half dozen teenagers consumed at the graduation party being held. McCarty’s daughter, Morgan, was also charged because according to authorities, “purchasing the alcohol was her idea”.
The McCartys now face nine counts of unlawfully dealing with a child. According to Livingston County Sheriff York:
We are going to send a clear message that we are not going to tolerate this. We never did, and we’re not going to now.
